But the oil pressure was bothersome. Tiger Tom Ehrhart came over and put &nbsp;some fancy gauges on the oil gallery to measure it. The car was in a tight spot, so he got in and I watched the needle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow high should it go,\u201d asked I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOh, about 50,\u201d says he.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He started the engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWait, wait,\u201d I yelled.&nbsp; \u201cIt went to 2.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c2? No really? 2?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYep.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOk, let\u2019s try this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He took the gauge off and handed me a paper towel to catch the oil when it spurted from the hose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGet ready,\u201d says he. \u201cThe oil will spurt out and make a mess.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He started the car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And oil did come out, but more like a dripping nose if you have a bad cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So that\u2019s that, no trip to NY this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Progress over the winter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the winter, we <a href=\"https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/tires-and-wheels\/\">sorted out the brake<\/a>s, added <a href=\"https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/heater-blower-fan-housing-repair\/\">heater fan<\/a>, ordered <a href=\"https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/springs\/\">new coil springs for the front<\/a> and looked for a clear problem with the oil pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/joe-and-dave-young-650x503.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-140\" width=\"325\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/joe-and-dave-young-650x503.jpg 650w, https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/joe-and-dave-young-350x271.jpg 350w, https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/joe-and-dave-young-150x116.jpg 150w, https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/joe-and-dave-young-768x594.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/joe-and-dave-young.jpg 1128w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 325px) 85vw, 325px\" \/><figcaption>Joe McConlogue and Dave Young try to find the problem.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In May we had the <a href=\"https:\/\/teae.org\">TEAE <\/a>BASH (Bring A Sunbeam Here) in our TajMaGarage. About 20+ guys were here for a short gimmick rallye, some food, car talk, and tech sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One was to try to diagnose the oil  problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were ideas, testing, greasy hands and frayed minds in trying to diagnose the problem.  The outcome? Unable to be determined. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end, it was decided that the engine was just too tired to be rebuilt.&nbsp; Besides, we had a <a href=\"https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/motor-mounts\/\">rebuilt Sunbeam Alpine 1725 engine <\/a>from a long-abandoned project sitting on a stand in the garage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PLUS, also laying around was a perfectly good overdrive unit!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No more granny low gear for me! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next: &#8220;Just&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/kerchmcconlogue.com\/1960-hillman\/motor-mounts\/\">dropping in that Alpine engine<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, we didn\u2019t make it to the TEAE United, on Long Island, NY in the car We did get new tires from Pep Boys of all places!
